Panama Yellow-fronted Amazon
(Amazona ochrocephala panamensis )

Description: as ochrocephala, but yellow restricted to forehead and forecrown; lores and area around eyes green; back of crown tinged with blue; thighs green, a few birds with yellowish tinge; bill horn-coloured; smaller.

Length: 35 cm (13.5 ins), wing length 190 - 215 mm (7.5 - 8.5 ins)

Distribution: northern Colombia to western Panama; Archipelago de las Perlas in Canal Zone and on Coiba.

Tres Marias Amazon
(Amazona ochrocephala oratrix tresmariea)

Description: as oratrix, but yellow generally slightly paler; extends to back of head, in some birds to breast (but mostly less extensive than magna); feathers to nape without black edging, often mixed with yellow and in some males with reddish margin; breast and abdomen with very pronounced turquoise-blue tinge and in all birds without dark edging; thighs yellow on innerside, but also often absent; narrow red bend of wing mixed with yellow; larger.

Immatures with darker iris; yellow restricted to forehead and crown; bend of wing green.

Length: 40 cm (15.5 ins), wing length 225 - 245 mm (8.5 - 9.5 ins)

Distribution: Tres Marias Islands and San Junaico, Mexico.

Yellow-Headed Amazon
(Amazona ochrocephala oratrix)

Description: as belizensis, but yellow extends to throat, sides and back of head; feathers to nape green with pronounced black edging, often mixed with yellow and in a few birds with reddish margin; yellow on average more extensive in male than female; breast and abdomen green, in virtually all birds with darker edging; thighs yellow on innerside; bend of wing red mixed with yellow.
 

Immatures with darker iris; yellow restricted to forehead and crown; bend of wing green.

Length: 38 cm (15 ins), wing length 205 - 235 mm (8 - 9 ins)

Blue-Fronted Amazon
(Amazona aestiva)

Description: generally green; feathers faintly edged with black; variable head colouring; forehead and lores blue; front of crown, eye area, sometimes ear-coverts and thighs yellow; lower cheeks and chin green, blue or yellow; bend of wing red, sometimes with scattering of yellow feathers; edge of wing yellowish-green; primaries and primary-coverts with violet-blue tips; red wing-speculum on outer five secondaries; tail green with greenish-yellow tips; base of outer feathers red; skin to periophthalmic ring whitish to grey; bill dark grey; iris orange; feet grey.

Immatures with less intense plumage; less blue and yellow on head; great variations; iris dark.

Red-Lored Amazon
(Amazona autumnalis )

Description: general plumage green; forehead and lores red; crown and nape green, each feather edged bluish-lilac; upper cheeks and ear-coverts yellow, in some birds interspersed with red or completely orange; secondaries green becoming dark blue towards tips; first five secondaries with red wing-speculum; tail green with greenish-yellow tips; outer webs of outer tail-feathers blue, periophthalmic ring whitish; bill grey-horn colour; iris orange; feet grey.

Immatures with less red to forehead; yellow cheeks interspersed with green; iris dark.
